"Hello Detective" by Sometimes Funny - Reviewed on June 2nd, 2009

One thing I had a problem with was the semi-chasing scene towards the end. The scene was great and the shots were nice and fast paced but the song selection seemed very out of place. Just the instrument change threw me off from a violin/piano filled soundtrack to upbeat guitar riffs and drums. I understand that it's a chase scene and an upbeat song is right for it but I guess this also ties into the film being very short making things (or music in this case) feel rushed like CharmingNewSociety mentioned.

Overall it was a nice film. Was the Rode VideoMic used in this one too?

Very good point! The music change is a bit abrupt - the ending scene was kind of frantic while filming it as well and I didn't have the footage I needed to make the transition from 'talking' to 'chasing' very well. I tried a couple different tracks and may have just picked the wrong one.

And yeah - used the Rode on this - literally just holding it in my spare hand so I could get it really close to the actor's mouths, haha. Pretty ghetttoooo.

really?
I was thinking of buying the rode with my HV30, but do you really have to keep it that close for good audio? because i've heard it's quite good at a distance. I also might make myself a boom pole

The closer the better, when it comes to audio!

as long as you don't put the mic in your mouth.
but no really... how is the audio at a normal distance mounted on the camera with the videomic?

"Hoodwink" by Edward Flinch Productions - Reviewed on June 2nd, 2009

Beautiful quality and very nice shots. I liked cutaway shot of the dog, this was a nice touch that added to the professional film effect, nicely done.

I also loved the twist and the small flashbacks guiding us around. The story was very well structured in the opening dialogue as well.

What I thought was brilliant was how the passing civilian thought that the main character was just a sleeping bum. I actually would love to see him survive this and have the film continue with vendetta in mind :)
