"Superman's Pain" by Sometimes Funny - Reviewed on August 3rd, 2009

This is ours! Mike wrote a great concept and Doug is always the consummate superman. Happy with the dolly shots. ALSO all the stuff on the TV is faked (it was just turned off on set), and pretty convincingly I'd say, for shooting this thing at 8 pm and having it done by 1 am.

This is so effing metal!!! Sure you made it in 2 minutes, but damn you've got such a powerful shot of you ripping up the wall, a great idea, a great location. One of my favs of the week, easily.

"Guitar Haiku" by Yes Maam Productions - Reviewed on August 3rd, 2009

Pretty decent. I like the music. I'm not a huge fan of cross fade transitions. My main problem is your text is very hard to read. Too bad the guitar playing in the video doesn't match the music.

ahh i know right? Im about to trash my current editing program and start using AVID more consistently at my school. The quality after producing the movies is so much better it almost makes my camera look better too ha.

I also originally intended for the music to be my own song but my recording equipment broke :-( so i stole Andy McKee's tune "For My Father" - he may be the best guitarist in the world....right next to me of course ha

So freaking creeeeeeeeeepy!!!! Your audio quality is simply awful - step away from the mic to breathe in! (and to keep things from getting muffled.) Maybe you did it on purpose to make it creepier? Almost sounds like a voicemail. Between this and the jesus one we have some serious diversity his week, haha. Really twisted idea got ya the Heavyweight.

Olivier! You're always good for making up something fun. I'm sad that none of your trademark gun effects or explosions are in this, but the end if very awesome. Would have like to see the last shot just be you blasting away, though.

"Tie Haiku" by Hippojuicefilm - Reviewed on August 3rd, 2009

Intro graphics are SIiiiiickkkk, great audio work. Did you use cinema 4d? For such awesome titles, I'm at a loss as to why your camera audio is only coming out of the left channel!. You gotta equalize dat shit sonnnnnn! how can you not notice? Drives me nuts :) Very fun and cool otherwise

Thanks, I did it from a tutorial file I got at mattrunks.com. If you watch the tutorial he shows you how to change up the file. But thats all mattrunks. Major goof on the audio, I have to start editing with head phones.

"Christ Daily: a video Haiku" by Yupfrank Productions - Reviewed on August 3rd, 2009

I was on the fence about this one. Not sure how I feel about such a religious theme, but I really liked the first shot with the ring, the sped up painting shot is very cool - it says you filmed in a cathedral - too bad you didn't zoom out more to show the whole space instead of just the cross, or shot another scene there. All in all produced pretty well.

What's wrong with a religion theme? I like it, very cool. Different.

i dont understand why you didnt like the religious theme but it is your opinion and i respect it
thank you very much the 2nd shot is my favortie, took a while to put togther
and i tryed zooming out at the cathedral but it didnt loook so good, it was quite dark there
thanks again for the chance

"Revenge" by Hollstroms Productions - Reviewed on August 3rd, 2009

This was a tricky one for me. I like your scene transition. VERY cool effect. I think this was a good start - I would have liked to have some dialogue in the 2nd shot - I mean someone pulls a gun and your characters would be screaming and freaking out. Also, the gun 'cocking' sound was very unconvincing. I don't think the main guy at the end reacts appropriately either. Like I said, was on the fence but ultimately this squeaked into lightweights. I think you'll make it up to HW next fight! You guys got the goods!

Thanks Justin!
I understand what you mean. Thanks for the tips. I didn't realize in the last scene my friends didn't act the greatest until post. I'm still pretty happy you liked my transition effect because that took forever to make.
Thanks, I can't wait for the next fight!

"Summer Days" by AboutMovies - Reviewed on August 3rd, 2009

Cute entry. I like the music and the acting is believable (really does look warm!) good color correction. In the end, I felt this was a LW, but a good one. Don't take it like I think your film is bad, just not quite there with the HWs.

"Lines in the Sky" by The Ruse Films - Reviewed on August 3rd, 2009

FREAKING AWESOME! I love everything about this. Sound design is awesome, the motion tracking is dead-on. The explosion is great too - looks like you mixed a couple elements from Detonation films too. Ha, so scary but great. One of my fav entries of all time.

Oh and are you shooting with like a glidecam on this? looks great. You're using your HD embed option too!! haha, very smart :)

Thanks for the review, glad to hear you enjoyed it! I've been wanted to do some motion tracking stuff for a while now, and this months fight was a perfect fit. I was really happy with the way this one turned out.

Great eye, I indeed used some elements from detonation films. And yes, I used a glidecam for the second shot. A very fun toy, and well worth the investment for all interested. It's a little on the expensive side tho.
