"Turkey: The Rap" by F.A.S.T.films - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

OK, this one was mine, so I can't really review it. I will say some things that turned out good and bad.

First off, this is a legit turkey recipe I used from howtocookathanksgivingturkey.com. My intentions were to make a 30sec rap recipe that you could actually follow (having to pause to take notes, as stated int he song) to use to cook a turkey. I actually cooked the turkey you saw in the movie to these specifications. After using these instructions and reading further into the subject, I decided this was NOT the recipe to use for this song. It required more steps than most recipes, hence being harder to fit into 30 seconds, and it used controversial cooking temps, asking you to reduce to 250º, when 325º is lowest recommended for safety purposes. Also, it took about an hour longer than the "20 more minutes per pound" recommended in the recipe.

OK, the rap. I think I did a pretty creative job of fitting this long recipe into a 30 second rap. It was a very full song, to say the least. Again, probably should have picked a shorter recipe. As Justin said, the timing was off. This was due mostly to the auto tuning. It was in time, until I ran the filters on it. I tried over and over, but finally settled getting as close as it was. I wish I would have written Rex a couple more lines, because I had more fun watching his parts.

The video turned out OK. Originally I was going to try to use more locations and a variety of costumes. In the end, I felt like that might have been confusing, considering we were supposed to be actually cooking this turkey. Another obstacle was that I cooked the turkey over a week after I shot the rest of the video. Would have been nice to have it there with Rex's parts. There we a couple of shots with "FAST FILMZ N REX" on the fridge, but I cut out (because of a less preferable "costume" I was wearing) a few shots with "BIG J AND REXY". I would have rather had the latter make the final cut. In hindsight, we should have definitely used supplemental lighting in most of the kitchen shots, too.

Overall I was pretty happy with this movie, but I wish I would have used a better turkey recipe and that the actual rap part was more in-time and coherent.

"Thanksgiving Tradition" by Clarity Prevails Productions - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

Heather, this turned out great! Glad to see you in the heavy weights, where you belong. I think Clarity is one of the groups who have evolved the most technically. This movie was so nice and clean. I think you got the idea across great, pay no attention to our drunk review. I probably couldn't have spelled my name at that point. If I really had to suggest anything that could have made me like this video better, I would have liked the girls to have said something. I love it when kids act, especially in morbid type scenarios such as this. Overall fantastic job!

That drunken review show is going down in HISTORY at filmfights. lol. You were so blatantly blunt and honest it was great. My two favorite comments, "Justin's trying to be funny, but it's just stupid." and "Nice ASS!" (when Meagan walks past the camera -- she has not seen it yet, but i did relay the message through phone conversatin.)

OH, god. I couldn't even watch those drunk reviews they were so embarrassing. Haha. I was going back to label at least which one was which, and couldn't even make it through the first 30 seconds of (whichever one I happened to click on), because I was so uncomfortable watching it. I hope Derek was the one who said nice ass. Ha.

"Talking Turkey" by Benton Tarantella Films - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

DUSTI, OMG!!! Dude, I had no idea you were this good at making movies. This was a masterpiece. I had never seen any of your other movies. Over the top acting and a perfect plot for this 30 minifight. Nice to see someone else forcing Rex into a movie this week, too. One thing, your white balance was set for the wrong kinda of light, leaving you movie with a yellowish tint to it. Don't forget to check that. Other than that, this was perfect. I literally laughed my ass off the first time I watched it.

"Talkin' Turkey" by Griffinity - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

Griffin, that was FANTASTIC! Great job on the effects. If I didn't know better, I would have guessed you 'd been doing stuff like that for years. I haven't had time, yet, but am eager to check out your thread on how you pulled this off. As usual, the quality was spic and span. The whole thing was very easy on the senses. Having access to that location really helped you sell this idea. The main actor, but especially the kids were all great. The most important thing is that you had a really perfect idea for the turkey minifight. I think that's the hardest thing about these short ones, is that there is no room for error in timing your script. I wish i had some criticism, but there is none I can give. Perfection.

"Turkey Lover" by Rough Cut Boston - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

HA! Freaking awesome. I have yet to look, but are you guys first timers? It's always nice to see a group I am not familiar with and then be blown away with the quality of their movie. That splatter/exploding - whatever you call it effect at the end was really impressive. Aside from the splattering and stuff hitting the camera, it really looked like chunks of flesh were left laying around the room afterwards. Great job. The audio levels seemed to be a little lower than the rest of the movies. I had to turn it up quite a bit. Other than that, everything was technically spot on. Lights, white balance. very clean video. I really look forward to seeing you guys in a longer filmfight.

Thanks man. We found about this fight real last minute so we ended up writing, shooting and editing in 2 days. This wasn't enough time to get lights and mics so we just dealt with what we had at the time. I love that other production people are watching these because they notice the subtle things. Thanks again man.

"Turkeys of Death" by EmmerekEntertainment - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

Emmerek in the Heavy Weights!!! Congrats! I have really been hoping to see you guys make it to the HWs for awhile. Loved that turkey sound! Really funny idea. Reminds me of that really old South Park episode and then the following game about turkeys taking over. Good Job, guys.

That is some pretty cool animation effects. I think I read that this was your first attempt at any animation. I know that can be hard, because I have tried and failed. Good job at doing better than I could have. This was a fun little cartoon. Probably needed a little more substance to make HWs, but definitely a nice stab at the minifight. Cheers!

"Doug's Thanksgiving" by Speeding Turtles - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

Well ,I like the idea. Doug don't have hands and, so he cannot make those hand traced turkeys we always see little kids making around thanksgiving. Couple technical things. The was a toy Hummer in one shot, that was not in the next, that was then later seen on the floor. Even though you were doing a voice over, I think it still would have been kinda nice to hear some sounds from him throwing the paper and crayons. Even if it was just added in sfx. Great effort and keep on trying, for sure!

Yes this hummer was my friends idea to see if anyone noticed. It moved around between different shots. I'm not sure if it was a good idea, but when I saw your vid review of it(I think that was you) I got a laugh out of when you noticed it.

"Holiday Hunting" by Glossy Finish Pictures - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

I really liked the first half of this. Shots were set up nicely and the acting was good. Gets a little iffy after the line"WILSON!". Doesn't seem like the shots flow as good from that point. At one time you say "I don't need this" and the "I don't" can be heard in two different shots. Decent idea for a 30 fights, though. I like you guys' dedication. Seems like you enter about every week. Hope to see you up in the HWs with Emmerek, next time. (I think you have made HW, before)

"TURKEYS WHATEVER" by VIPERFANG - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

Ha! You crazy dudes! Derek and I filmed something similar (in quality) to this the night we did out drunk reviews. I was too wasted to figure out how to edit it or even just put it online. I want Viper fang to enter every single time!

"Regarding Turkey" by deadfrogsociety films - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

I thought this was a pretty good idea for the minifight. Good dramatic lighting, if the white balance might have needed just a little adjustment. The dialogue was delivered really good. I especially liked the "suckin satan's cock" line. Great job, guys!

"Fowl Play" by Mad Cow Film Corporation - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

Whoa, what the heck? That was really cool. I think you aspect rtio got a litte effed up, though. I liked the effects you used on the film to make it look grungier (unless you just filmed it straight and your camera did that for you). I felt like I was watching a trailed, but it needed title work. Aside from the absence of some needed titles, I really enjoyed this. Kinda freaky, too.

"Happy Thanksgiving" by Group Gonzo - Reviewed on November 28th, 2009

Where were you guys a week ago? Had this been turned in on time, I am pretty sure you would have made HW status. I really liked it, a lot. That turkey was really creepy! White balance was a taste off color, but other than that, a pretty technically sound video. Pretty believable "video camera" effect. Nice job. I really hope you guys submit to upcoming fights. Had I not already voted, this would have been my LW vote, for sure.

Thanks a lot. We had to wait for the CG to come back hence our lateness. Yeah the white balance was left untouched to add realism, since it's meant to be a novice behind the camera. Thanks for the feedback, appreciated friend.
