"Christmas Loneliness" by Synaptic TV - Reviewed on December 8th, 2009

Ew.
Hahaha. I liked that this was totally not what I was thinking when I saw the contest prompt. A nice, short, PSA, that's edited well and is funny, but gross. I dunno if it'll get my vote, but it definitely was interesting.

I dug it a lot.
Even though it was what I was expecting from the prompt: a montage of someone who is lonely or isolated, I liked this one a lot! It was filmed really really well and the music was just perfect. Thought it was great. Reminded me of "Into the Wild" a bit, for some reason.

Yeah! Totally like 'into the wild'! Good observation

I wasn't thinking about a "Into the Wild" feel at the time, but your right. It does. You know, without the whole being poisoned and dying thing.

Hahaha, exactly. No poison, no dying. But like, the feel of when he gets to Alaska. That's more what I meant.

Thought it was good. Acting was good, interesting take on Santa knocking some sense into him...reminds me of Lion King with Rafiki. Shots were nice, I especially liked the stuff outside with the depth of field that makes the lights look awesome. Ambulance turning the corner was a great touch. The Jewish comment was funny, too.

"Jimmy's Lonely X-mas" by EmmerekEntertainment - Reviewed on December 8th, 2009

I liked the flipping through the channels.
And the shots where you were switching places on the couch, but I think it would've been better faster.
Uhoh, a robber! Music's really intense. Maybe a little over-the-top, but possibly what you were going for? Some shots have the autofocus switch in and out. Also, the sound effects for the fight are all the same. Try to vary it more when it comes to sound effects.
Music is used well, I like the Charlie Brown Christmas music a lot. Ending is kinda funny, but I don't know if it's realistic that it would be right at that part of the show, if he was still flipping channels during it being played and then went to bed and beat up a robber.

I think the acting is really good. All the reminiscing is really believable, especially with the laughter.
Oooh! Remembering! I was wondering about how it was lonely, didn't cross my mind that he would be imagining her there. Great effect with the fade out, looked really good!

Thanks...it's a true story! My last name is difficult to spell, and I jokingly asked her how to spell it. She was so excited she answered, " Oui" ( yes in French) not hearing the question! She thought I asked her what her answer was!!!! It's a great real life moment because she WAS a deer in the headlights! The "pull my finger" was HER idea for this film! We're glad you enjoyed it!

"Surreal Christmas" by Surreal Nightmares - Reviewed on December 8th, 2009

Some of the shots are too dark to see anything.
Kinda appears like a hodgepodge of stuff. Which is the point I guess, I bet you had fun editing it. I think it should be faster cut with more shots or have some stuff layered over it, maybe make it filmed with more interesting or artistic shots. I understand that it's supposed to be artsy and abstract and experimental, but I don't think it's really a good representation of the style. It looks like it was just thrown together the night before the deadline.

"The Lonely Christmas" by Jesse Gilbert Films - Reviewed on December 8th, 2009

Like the effect used with the home movie footage. The square that's blurred. A good mixture of shots. I like the gag with the stocking. The reaction to his parents' death isn't enough for me. Vocally, he doesn't change, and physically he just puts his head up against a wall, which is good body language, but I would've preferred seeing his face react.

The ending was pretty much a last resort. I had it where he would drop the phone then it cut to like a close up of the phone just rocking back and forth with the police still talking. But that ending made it go way over the time limit :/
