"Irrefutable Solitude" by Luminous Path Films - Reviewed on January 11th, 2012

Eric Deblinger made a heartfelt debut performance as Howard Bleeb. I love how the filmmaker, Matthew Deblinger, took the perspective of what a child would do if suddenly he was all alone in the world. Nice job!

The voice-over was spot-on perfect for this film. What creative comic script writing. And you know what TheWocs, It was funny to me too! Loved your film and I'd enjoy seeing more of your work. Good Luck in this Fight!

"River" by SnBallFilms - Reviewed on January 13th, 2012

I didn't understand this film until I went back and read the description. To me, the bottle in the water didn't mean someone else was there (in the present) but that someone else had been there, but I didn't know how long ago. So, a little confusing there. On a positive note, I thought there was some beautiful cinematography of nature.

"Melancholy" by BlueZone - Reviewed on January 13th, 2012

I wasn’t clear on why there were birds chirping. Did all the humans die, but not the birds.? At first I thought their chirping was playing on the character’s tape recorder to keep him from living in silence, but then the chirping stopped. Did the birds go away? Film wasn’t clear on the birds as a character in this story. What I did love was the sound effects especially the sound of the house being dragged. The choice of wardrobe for the character was a good one and the old toy house was an artsy and very cool prop. The actor looked the part and did a good job for you, BlueZoneMX.

"Voices" by Rubber Duck Productions - Reviewed on January 13th, 2012

I liked the “whispers”, they sounded like they were from the jungle of the hit series LOST. The children’s voices were creepy good, but the man’s voice was too loud and sounded like a Halloween prankster. Since the voices are a character in your story, they all needed to carry the same conviction for the audience. I liked the bit of teenage humor you included, when the character did not react to his siblings not in their beds, but was very happy when his parents’ bed was empty. Keep up the good work Rubber Duck Productions!

"Alone" by TheLightningluke Productions - Reviewed on January 13th, 2012

Luke Reynolds you are a funny guy. You looked like you were having some fun in the indoor scenes. But here are some things to think about. The narration needed to be rehearsed just a bit more for better fluency. The street was like a character in itself and looked dismal like the theme of the story. The garbage bag blowing in the wind was a nice touch. However, I did not think the new-looking, shiny white car fit this set. It looked like someone took the time to wash it, when the rest of the world has gone to pieces. It would have been nice if you were able to edit out the sound of the wind blowing since that let the audience know there was a cameraman (i.e. another person in the world) instead of us just seeing/hearing the character. You know what I mean? I like seeing creative teens making films so keep it up! Good work, TheLightningluke Productions.

"Alone in Burbland" by Ali of Films - Reviewed on January 13th, 2012

I did not see any indication of the character being distraught about being the only person left in the world, so is he the only person left? Or, is he just all alone in the house (i.e., parents out of town)? Everything was very speedy and I am wondering what your thoughts were behind that decision? Did the No Dumping sign have any significance to your story? You answered the questions that appear in the Rules, How will they cope? Where do they go? What do they do now?, but you did so very literally, without making us care about the character or feel what he is feeling. You did a nice job but you needed to give us something deeper so we would feel some emotion.

It looks like you have some animation talent and some comic writing skills. Keep working on those. I liked the overall idea but you'll need to work on your direction and editing a bit more. But I think we'll be seeing more of you. Nice attempt.

"The Lost Cyborg" by Pacific Water Films - Reviewed on January 13th, 2012

If the Cyborg died at the end, a more dramatic ending would have been for the heart to stop beating. Don't you think? I didn't understand the significance of the other sound effects you used or why the color switched to red. You were thinking outside the box by having your character be a Cyborg instead of a human so points for creativity. Keep making films, it looks like you enjoy it.

"The End of Human History" by Beaver Brain Productions - Reviewed on January 13th, 2012

Brian, you found some excellent locations to make your film, however, your clothing looks brand new so it wasn't believable to me that you were outdoors, wandering alone, for so long. I am concerned for your canine actor since he was very thin and looked undernourished. While he fits the part of a starving animal in your film, I truly hope he is not a starving animal in real life. On the other hand, you look very healthy and fit (not starving), so you weren't believable as this character. What I liked best about your film was your choice of locations to shoot in. It looks like you have a real talent for set/art direction.

I agree about the clothing, however it would have been costly to A) Destroy my actors clothes, or B) Buy clothes for him to destroy. I'm a different size then my actor and nothing I had would fit him. So we had to use his clothes.

As for him looking like he was starving, I made the film on one days notice, and it also would have been a lot of me too ask for my actor to go all out like Christian Bale in the Machinist.

The dog is a Greyhound and they're a naturally thin dog. She's actually overweight for a Greyhound believe it or not.

Thanks for the kind words about my choices to shoot in. I'm just blessed with the fact that where I live there are tons of woods, and abandoned buildings to choose from.

"the exhibit" by HemlockCinema - Reviewed on January 13th, 2012

I'm as confused about your film as your character is about his world. But maybe that is what you wanted to achieve. I thought the character's gloves were the perfect symbol of his hardship, him protecting himself from the elements, and his many years of solitude. They (the gloves) were my favorite part of the film. They grabbed my attention and carried me through his journey.

With all this technology, who needs people, right (??) This tween has managed to keep himself occupied with ebay, facebook. gaming, texting (did I miss any?). A couple flaws in editing, I saw an arm and heard some giggling; but it looks like a tween film all the way and I'm sure you had a blast making it. I think you kids have potential. Good Luck on your future endeavors!

I absolutely loved all the vibrant colors we saw even though it was a cloudy day. There are some beautiful images here, like the park bench with the branches of the tree gently swaying behind it. The detail of the grass was so crisp. I didn't care for the music though and I think your neighbor may have had his chimney lit (??) Fino-Bis Productions you are HeavyWeights in the making!

"Beans" by Mega Black Suit Productions - Reviewed on January 15th, 2012

No doubt prior to becoming the last man alive, your character saw Cast Away and Tom Hank's relationship with his ball "Wilson". But whereas Hank's character treats Wilson as a beloved friend and companion, your character appears to be suffering from paranoia and does not trust his ball-head campmates, Jones and Mack(?). I thought your film was a good look at paranoia, which under the circumstances of his current life, is believable for your character. Simeon Payne did a good job playing this troubled character. Some things I liked was how the non-Jones ball (Mack, is it?) had that devilish smile on its face. Clever! And loved the effect of sparks from the fire adding bits of orange color to the dark set. I did think the background was a tad bit too dark for me, but I wonder if that was intentional on your part. For me the blood on the hand was confusing since your character attacked Jones and knocked him over, but then Jones was sitting upright. Was that scene a hallucination? Story is a little confusing there. But overall, nice job on an alternative take on having a ball as a lonely, desperate man’s companion.

Man! Thanks for the great review! The lighting was intentionally dark all though we may have went too dark for some shots. We really wanted to convey a sense of emptiness around him, and felt like darkness would be a perfect way to convey that. The blood was an hallucination. Thanks again for the awesome review!

"ALONE (inside)" by Redhand Studios - Reviewed on January 15th, 2012

This film was an accurate and compelling look at Bereavement. There were important clues you gave your audience that your character lost his wife recently. For example, he is wearing a wedding ring, the decor of the bedroom is feminine, there is a Christmas tree still up in their kitchen, photos of his wife at work, and the most obvious the photo on their night stand. Great use of props to tell a story that has no dialogue. A young wife dies and is survived by a husband who adored her and their pet wolf. Todd Hanson did a convincing job portraying the deep loneliness one feels after losing a spouse. His life is on autopilot and he just goes through the motions of his everyday existence. A beautiful story of grief and how life goes on because it has to, not because he wants it to. Well done!

"Searchlight" by Two Guys and a Camera Films - Reviewed on January 15th, 2012

I did not understand the significance of the map and the cassette player to the story. There was also a fast-moving image that remained unexplained. After knowing how the film ends, the character’s apparent fear and anger throughout his “seeking out”, did not fit. The ending of the film was not as much a twist for me, as it was revealing the character’s true state of mind and purpose. Therefore his journey to get to that place appeared too exaggerated for me to believe it. The film was a tad too dark, lighting wise, however, that did lend itself to allowing you to do some awesome spot lighting on interesting objects like the sneakers, soda can, park bench and teddy. Your lighting crew did a great job with that, and it is what I liked best about your film.

Thanks for your lengty and insightful review meeshmiami. The film was not supposed to end on a super serious or thought provoking note. I intended it to end in a funny sort of way and therefor the overdramatization of everything that happend in the alley aswell as his anger towards the casetteplayer hopefuly helped to make people chuckle. I am glad you liked the lighting. It was my first time really working with lighting especially outside in the dark so I am happy it turned out well. Also; as far as my lighting crew is concerned: I wish I had one, haha. Except for the moving of the camera I did everything by myself. Then again; that's the name of my group right? ;) Thanks again!

"Alone" by ApolloMagic - Reviewed on January 15th, 2012

The best scene in your film was when your character was on the hill and she had her arms stretched out. We could see beyond her because of the holes in her sweater, so that was a good wardrobe decision. It was dusk and the rays of sunlight in the sky was very nice. I liked the sound of the swing and the clock ticking, but music with birds chirping does not fit in a film about being alone. Your actress needed to be more believable as being sad enough to jump off the bridge. Her voice and facial expressions just did not convey that for me.
