"Don't Tell Father" by NNC Productions - Reviewed on October 24th, 2006

Goodness, what an intro. Someone's been learning some 3d shiznit it seems.

I love the Man Sex playing on the TV. It's a nice fake commercial, fantastic touch to the film. Going from the intro, to the mansex, and then hearing the awful background noise of your camera recording ... it's more than a little jaunting. It was all good up until then!

I like the shot of the dryer shaking around. But, why the hell is she in the dryer? Who the hell is she? Are these people living by the laws of the sitcom, that's why they have to have X amount of people during three's company?

I like the line "I'm sorry, I panicked!" Good delivery, good timing.

So, the intro comes in halfway through the film, kind of odd I guess. It's good you kept that background trailer going when you cut from shot to shot. If it was skipping around between the shots I'd be angry.

Wow, that's some disturbing facial hair. I'd suggest not zooming in and out like you were, with the shaky cam. I know you wanted a close-up kind of awkward feeling to it, but something about the way it moves around is odd, and doesn't match up well with everything else.

Blur is an okay effect for drunk, but I think that echo would be better. Blur makes it look like he just forget his glasses. Echo and some kind of distortion.

Alright, so, the girl's dead, and now he's got to pretend to be a girl ... maybe some shots setting up the girl beforehand, before she died in the dryer 69 ... so we have an idea of what she looked like before, making seeing him dressed up pretending to be her more funny.

The first half and the 2nd half ... I mean they don't flow together at all. Truly odd. Some kind of resolution of some kind would have been nice. The pacing was jaunting and confusing. If you're going to have a VO at the end, it would have been much better to have a VO through the whole thing so we kind of know who the main character is.

Intro title credits should have a little more pizzaz to them. Find a designer friend to help out. Even an outline or a drop shadow would help.

First off, you guys have a good sort of chemistry together. This reminds me a LOT of videos I used to make in high school. Almost uncanny.

My suggestion, set up your shots with a wide view of everything, then when people are actually talking, move in to a close up. Much easier when you're not trapped on a tripod though, assume it was just you two guys.

Give your titles some movement, some excitement.

Are you using a pinnacle capture card? Something about the weird compression reminds me of recording on an old VHS camcorder and editing on Premiere 5.0. Or maybe it's the music. Be careful that you can always hear the voices over the music.

Three cuts before the putting line - are you showing all the different ways of stroking?

When you cut from audio with a lot of background, make sure to FADE out the audio before going to quiet. Otherwise you get the jarring emptiness between shots.

Good job Dan Tripod! Haha.

The end shot made me chuckle a bit, that's some funny and awkward pointing!

"The Monkees" by A-OK Films - Reviewed on October 24th, 2006

Oyyy! What's wrong with the audio compression??? I can hear it alright, but it's too bad it's not more crisp. I understand it's tricky compressing audio on the Mac.

Love the effect on placing the heads on the bodies, it looks pretty genuine. Great writing, great flow to it. Thank god there isn't music behind this ... it would make the dialog impossible to hear.

That's some crazy DOF on those shots ... initially I thought it was photographs, but then saw how the background was moving. Fantastic reaction shots when Greg is talking about his dream.

The flow of the shots rules.

Haha, watching him tumble is great. And not just because I like seeing Seger in PAIN.

Huzzah!

Frickin' cool intro. I commended you on that before. Funny how sweet the intro is, and then the video is so simple.

Not a huge amount one can say, I wish there was some way of expressing the fact he was growing a little more. Maybe if you used some green screen and like --- expanded him as he screamed. Oh well, funny idea!

"Leave it to Beaver" by MunsterBear - Reviewed on October 24th, 2006

Rockin' suit and hat! Watch the framing of your shots, in the woods, you kind of drift away from your subject and he ends up too far on the right. Would be better if it was kept a bit more steady.

Let's hear some more about this Beaver character! This little trailer has promise for sure, I like that it's so quick, but you didn't expand upon it as much as you could have. Really could have been a nice little flick. Does Beaver talk? Are they partners? Is beaver his imaginary friend? Why was that dude tied up?? Hostage situation? A couple more hours of time into this and it would have been a treat, looking forward to seeing more!
