What you did right:
Lots of locations! Great costume. Love the shot of him running down the stairs. Love the opening shot w the thimble. Love the ending.

What you could work on:
COPYRIGHT MUSIC! Blargh. There's a weird 'echo' on your video. Maybe some kind of weird setting on your camera? Doesn't the monopoly guy have a monocle too? Could have used more tripod shots since your camera doesn't look super great when it's hand held.

Overall, super fun, love the pacing, awesome locations, cute idea.

About the monocle in some editions maybe he does have one but we weren't sure and he doesn't have one on our game. We did have more tripod shots but we just couldn't fit them into the 30 second time limit

Thanks for the review though and for the complements :)

Also we did have a pimp stick:D! but it kept breaking so we couldnt use that.
Thanks for the review Justin

At first he was only going to have the top hat, so it's like each character is a different player with a different piece. But then we thought a top hat with normal clothes is never going to look as good as a top hat AND a suit! So in that respect he's not exactly Uncle Moneybags - more of a younger nephew playing the game :D
But like anything it's open to interpretation (what hidden messages are there from the number of pigeons? lol)

Great locations! The dolly shot on the stairs was nice. The music is copyrighted though...shame on you! ha! A lot of energy in this picture.

I loved the scenery, London, Big Ben, London Eye, Great monopoly board. I don't think it was necessary to be so shaky though. Nice Job.

This is fun! I actually wasn't expecting the ending. Always a plus, and it cracked me up.

Very nice! The running on westminster bridge is a bit wonky and jerky, but it was good seeing as it wasnt shot with a steadycam. Is the stairs shot done with a dolly (or something to similar effect, skateboard etc) or is it just smooth and steady walking? A nice concept, well executed. lol cheezy line i know!

AvatarVolatile Productions
Reviewed on June 4th, 2010

It was actually just very steady walking and we were definatly considering cutting that especially shaky shot on the bridge. But we realised it had a London bus in the background and that it also gave it a hint of a 'Greengrass' feel, which means more energy!

That was really nice!
Clever idea.

A closer shot or a wider shot would have been a better shot for the house scene and maybe for a bit longer. Copyrighted music! but overall the best.

AvatarVolatile Productions

It's quite wide because we have to give the audience a sense of the scale, it's this tiny plastic house so we need to have the background to show how tiny it is. The whole film is about scaling up Monopoly to life size with the real streets and the real playing pieces, but then of course returning to it's roots as game at the end with a tiny green house. So it's not just some guy running round after all!

Overall a great job but I wanted to see more of a payoff in the end when you place the house down. I agree it should have been an extreme close up and lasted another couple of seconds.

Avatarbeobug
Reviewed on June 1st, 2010

I agree totaly with you that the it should of been a few seconds longer but it's only 30 seconds long so we were limited by that but we will do that when we make an extended edition because we have LOADS more footage. Thanks for your review

Its an entertaining video, but that smudge on the lens bothers me a lot and not too much work was put on the tone of the footage, but once again, I'll commend you instead of criticizing you.

AvatarVolatile Productions

That smudge was really annoying - we got it half way through our shoot when it was raining on Westminster Bridge. But at least only a few people noticed it ;)
Thanks very much for your reviews!

THIMBLE. Cool work. That bird flying at the camera is the most awesome thing ever. I hope everything works out for this guy. I hope he eventually buys a hotel. Nice movie. Also I fucking love the Jackson 5.

Thanks David! We thought the pigeon was the most awesome thing ever as well - it was just one of those really lucky things that you only realise after you've shot it!

Kinda ends abruptly, could of ended it with him landing on jail and then you cut the music as he is dragged away.

yer we would of gone for something like that but theres only so much you can fit in 30 secs and we wanted to stick to the idea of him running through the city to get to the next street to buy a house.
Thanks for your review

I really like the effective storyline! The insert shots really sold this for me and the iconic landmarks punched it up. The bad: watch out for copyright (music, brand names in the background). The good: inserts and emotion.

AvatarVolatile Productions
Reviewed on June 4th, 2010

Glad you liked the emotion side Roo! We were aiming to create something short and fun with a good ol' happy ending - and of course many of you are disappointed with the copyright music but we thought of it very early on in the pre-prod stage and stuck with it because it's full of that bouncy energy that we were looking for. (and there was nothing we could do about the Next ad when we had to have the 'New Bond Street' sign in frame) Cheers for the review!

Your choice of shots were spectatular. You luckily had a day with no fog in London! Imagine that! Spot on costumes and props and choreography. When you hook up with some local musicans for your music, you're going to raise the bar I think. Looking forward to your next film!

Cool stuff! I like the shots that you chose to use and the pacing was perfect. It would have been cool to see a little more competition, like someone he was racing against, or him landing in jail. However, it's still great!

Yeah if he was trying to get the last card of a colour and there was someone else trying to stop him so he couldn't buy the house! Great idea! Thank you

AvatarTreeMansionFilms

I love the concept! You guys seemed to have had a fun time making a fun film. I would've liked to see more themes of the game, though, like going to jail, having to pay fines, or other players.

AvatarVolatile Productions

Well the two characters at the beginning and the end are characters - but I suppose we could've had more of an element of competition...
