Beautiful opening shots. Loving it! Dude has a really goofy run. Hah -- love the opening title and the zoom in. Ha, the shot of the library looks fake.
I like the shots of him running sideways, wish you would have kept that as a theme. Him running towards the camera is less fun. Always good to develop visual consistency.
Man, everyone is calling 911 this fight!!! Ha, oh man I bet he has something in his mouth he needs to spit out.
Too bad the kid is smiling when he says "Daddd?" - kid should be more concerned. LOVE the shot of him leaning down into the fishbowl. Shot at 2:35 of the kid's head going into frame, also quite masterful.
2:54 - oh no poor fish!!!! That kid is cute :) The dad is a good actor. Casting! Gotta love it! Ending shot is QUITE nice though a little bit of jitter on the pull out. SOLD hw as usual --- you're one of my favs!!!
Hey Justin! Thanks for the great review! Yea I thought during editing that it would have been cooler to have the profile running shot between every "confrontation." Kyan (the kid) is an awesome kid. All the kids in this are my boys, and he's always had fun with the acting thing. You should see his film Hide N' Shriek on our youtube page. And don't worry the fish that got flushed was bought at the grocery store, already packaged and ready to eat... Thanks again!
nice camera, good shots. haha the bike on the sidewalk thing is funny. funny payoff, but the editing and suspensful music at the end were a bit weird, should have ended with happier music and quicker cuts. (and i dont see the fish in the last shot? should have waited til he swam higher... guess goldfish aren't great actors)
Hey Jake! Thanks. I actually felt kinda the same about the end. Felt the editing was not too bad, but the music was off. I was going to change it, but I wanted it in in time to be possibly considered for FFTV. Anyway, I think I'm still going to have someone re-score it before I throw it around to some other festivals!
Just a great little film. Love the score with it. Good stunt on the skateboard fall! Great angle on the guy laying by the tracks. Kudos to the little boy. Not bad for someone so young, and the final scene is great.
Blooper- ehhh, that library isn't that way! ha!
Hey there! Thanks very much, I'm glad you liked it. The skateboard thing was actually a pain to get, but it turned out.
By far my favorite film by you!? That baby in the womans arms is a NATURAL born actor!?!? Love the story all of the kids did a GREAT job. The mother, bicyclist, skateboarder and runner we're all great also!?
Wow I love HD...Beautiful shots. Outside has never looked so good. Excellent casting, top marks for everyone in the film, the acting really made this. And excellent content hehe funny. fav so far.
Aww, thanks! Yes HD is a wonderful thing. I'm really glad the casting worked out. I think I'll use Jared (the dad) some more before he runs off to broadway and becomes famous!
Since Dog Chow I've really loved everything you've done and entered into fights! You have great camera skills. The acting has definitely improved over time. My only complaint about this one was that there was too much running around. But I really enjoyed it! Good luck to you!
Yea I was a little worried about the running, only because of one of Jake's earlier comments on another running video where he said they were boring. I hope the story made up for it. I'm very happy you like our films, and good luck to yourself! I'll be getting around to review yours in depth today, but I saw it on youtube early yesterday, and I can say I really like it!
I loved it. It was simple but yet so technical. I envy you 0_o. I loved all the shots and I got a laugh when you spit the fish into the bowl. I like how you didn't go with, the person being a mute but rather something in his mouth, thats great and it didn't even cross my mind. Anyways I loved all the shots. Great work.
Thanks so much! The fish spitting was great. Our actor, Jared, originally wanted to try actually having the fish in his mouth and spitting it out, but we learned (luckily) that they tend to flip out and a lot of people have died choking on goldfish... hmm. Anyway, really glad you liked it!
Hello!
I thought this was shot and edited perfectly! One of the best edited shorts I've seen in awhile. I think some of the running shots dragged a little long, especially of the little boy coming home from school. Could have been cut down and I didn't know what I was looking at until he had his close up. LOVED the ending.
Looks like I have some competition!

Thanks so much! I definitely agree the kid walking home shot was a bit long, and I may edit down before I submit to some other fests. Thanks again!
Loved this short! The music fit perfectly , the action and acting were great and the ending was perfect.
I've gotta agree with all the reviews on this one. I really enjoyed it and you guys got really creative with it. Kudos to the goldfish! One of my top 5 favs! Good Job guys! And Good luck to you!
Hey thanks! It's always good to hear we're in someone's top 5! The goldfish thanks you too, though he's getting a bit too hollywood for my taste...
That really was just super awesomeness. I mean WOW! What a great intro. I love the whole premise of it that the dad is doing all this for his son. The music was great - was it homemade? And even though your other stuff was great, this takes it to a WHOLE new level man! It feels very very professional and I'd def encourage you to take it to other festivals! Only criticism is a couple of the shots last too long like the wide on the kid coming back from school, but apart from that it really was superb - fantastic casting for the lead! SO glad you entered this one
Oh man, this is just a super review! Lol, really glad you liked it so much! The music is royalty free from videocopilot. We are planning on editing down some shots and sweetening the audio even more and submitting it to other fests. Starting with AIFF a big local fest. The lead is my Bro-in-law Jared who just graduated college, majoring in theater. He's heading off in Jan. to go to NY and be on stage. You'll see him in a few more of ours before he leaves. Thanks again man for such enthusiasm!
It took me 3 watches to get why you showed a shot of a bus from behind in there. I was thrown off by the sudden color change and didn't realise he wanted to get on it. This has a really nice story to it and you came up with an excellent idea for him not to speak. Some of the running dragged a little. The boy walking home went a bit longer then I felt it needed too. Once in the house the pace just dropped majorly and needed to be a bit tighter. The house part should have been 10 seconds long because he gets in and just waits before he spits the fish in the bowl, we know whats going with him now and then it just stretches out like it was filling time. I think all of the stretchhing out parts, spitting the fish, flushing the dead one him being grossed out by the taste, should have all happened before the boy got to the table, just quick shots of all that happening, so its like "Dad?".. Inside, grab, spit, flush, grossed sit down. all a second or 2 each. Then sitting back at the table boy comes in "hi dad" Would have kept the urgency of this film up and watching it we'd feel more relieved like phew he beat the kid home JUST! He just had way to much time to spare inside. But very nice and touching story keep up the good work :)
Thanks for the review! We definitely plan on cutting it up a bit more before more fests come along!
I love the ending so much and im glad you didnt really go all out for comedy. I thought the pacing could have been a little faster though as i found myself thinking hurry up i want to see the next scene. Awsome location on the railway tracks and i thought your main actors face expressions where good.
All in all a good film with an awsome end
Thank you very much! Yea, we tried to get some really great locations. Medford here has some good ones. Thanks again!
Very good, very good, i love how the actor kept his facial expressions the same throughout, i loved the ending! Great Work!
That was great. I loved the shots and idea. I don't see a downside.
Biased of course, but love my brother's facial expression throughout the movie. The idea is great and the opening scene in score I love, it makes our town actually look good. Love this movie!
heart-felt, funny. i am glad you made this vid. nothing fishy about it and all gloden-ty, jojjy
