Okay, now this was hilarious. And a true day dream at that. It was a really nice use of effects, but the in and out of wide screen was distracting.
The audio at the end was out of place. Like it was done with the on board mic, or the audio capture settings weren't done right. There was too much room echo that could be eliminated by getting that boom mic in nice and close, and then turning down the gain.
The sequence of the bee/fly following the butterfly reminded me of something I heard about the first star wars movie (Episode IV). When they went to shoot the scenes of taking on the death star with models they planned their camera angles and motion by studying WWII fighter plane footage.
I point this out because the chase/flight scene seemed to go on a little longer than needed. There just didn't seem to be too much diversity in the shot to justify the time it took.
It's still a well done piece, and really only a few tweaks away from being an amazing piece. Just tighten up those cuts and keep the pacing fast. A piece like this needs fast pacing.
Thanks for the review!
I agree with the points you made but unfortunately they were unavoidable in this case :(
Well except the ratio shifts that was by choice :)
The other parts though:
I had planned to actually redo the star wars fights :P but it was 40 degrees outside (celcius) it was so hot i burnt my hand on the camera! :O So I opted out of doing it so I could just get out of the heat.
Then the last part was filmed later with a digital photo camera as the other camera was in use so I did the best with what I had :) Thats deadlines for you :P
But thanks again i'm glad you found it funny :D
nice chromakey work. Very clean. You spent a lot of time on this and excellent for a one person show. The down side is the entire thing is one sfx shot after another.
Thanks! :D yeah sound effects are my weak point I do them last so by then i'll have edited for days and just want the video to be finished :p
This was exactly the thing i had in mind for this fight, stuff that you would actually daydream about thats a little crazy. Not much really to say but the guy lines at the end were a little unconvincing. Awsome cat, i loved this entry and its definatly my favorite.
I liked how non-sensical this was except at the end where the cat talked. I think since the dream was so crazy the world should of been completely mundane and normal. So we have a high contrast narrative. I really liked the style and how different it was though. Its got a nostalgic feel of public broadcast animations back in the late 80s and 90s. You get my vote.

Whaaat? This was insane. I originally was thinking of something along these lines, of something crazy, but I thought no way would I be able to pull off the effects, so massive kudos to you, cause they looked great.
Kind of reminded me of Honey I Shrunk The Kids with the huge bee. And I loved the rocket bug. Even noticed that the T-shirt was billowing in the wind. Awesome touch. And the cat at the end, although I didn't really get I couldn't help but laugh.
I feel, if I had to critique one thing it would be the lack of story, but then again, it didn't really bother me, as a daydream doesn't really follow a set path.
Well done!
Somewhat Awesome! ALWAYS awesome in my book!
Look at that tiny tiny man, lolz. I like the extra effect of the tree shaking when the butterfly explodes into it. Lots of neat effects here - the 'super widescreen' is cool! Your films always have an old kind of classic feel to them, the explosions are great too. Is that final fantasy music in thebackground?
Haha, the third person flying around shot is so awesome, I love how long it goes on for, haha
Why does the audio at the end suck so much ?? All that time on effects and magic and you can't fix up the kid's last line? For shame!
Not much 'content' to this, but as a dream and as just something silly, thought it was great. Pacing was fine, didn't drag. Good work!
I loved the retro feel of the film. The animation really caught my eye. The effects kind of had that intentionally cheesy feel, which really worked. I love we just jump right into it. "What?! A tiny guy fighting killer exploding butterflies!"
The only problem that I had with the film was the talking cat in the end. You really don't get the sense that you've snapped back into reality, almost like it's still a dream. You probably could have added that contrast in there. Other than that it was a solid film. I loved it, I'm voting for it and I am looking forward to seeing if it makes on to FFTV.
Nice. Very crazy. I gotta say I normally don't like films that are overblown with effects. But the style you gave the whole film was really a lot of fun and the effects seemed to fit in even if they weren't all perfect. I thought the cat talking at the end was genius. He comes out of the dream so you expect the film at that point to have normal rules so when he speaks to someone you think it's a person at first. Til you see the cat. Good on you. I would have liked to see you throw a few medium closeups of the guy and the butterfly when he was chasing it down. Get a high powered fan and have him lean into it, I really think it would've added to it. Other than that, awesome job!!
After watching, I like the concept, and style you have going on. Being an animator though I can not help but say that the animations could use some tweaking. The butterflies look best when perched on something, while moving, not as well. If you allow the butterflies to move a little while flapping, and not allow them to be stationary, they will seem more real, and not be as distracting. One good thing to remember when it comes to animation is that something that is static is picked up by the eye immediately. So best rule of thumb, even if something appears still, place a little bit of subtle movement to it, to show life and the unpredictability of it. Nice job overall. I like the butterfly explosions. They were unexpected.
I bet it was fun making this video. I love the part with the flying chase, that was awsome.
