Awesome! Loved this one. Great shots, and pacing. All the dolly shots where great as well as the lighting. I really can't find anything wrong with this one. Great job guys!

Thanks so much! I was incredibly stressed during the production about the lighting.. it's something I've never been great at. I was surprised and happy when I got it in the editor. Thanks again!

GREAT audio in the opening, wow, I love love love the dolly shot, great composition! Dollys are so magical, they just take things to the next level instantly. Audio muxing is great as well ... love the music - really fleshing out a whole world here.

Shot of the clock is fantastic, love the framing. Acting seems pretty dang good too. Love that you took the time to ADR the audio ... I mean, you always do, but I always appreciate it - it's getting better, matching better, sounding better.

Hey dude, hats off to you, that was freaking fantastic. Was there something more to this besides the obvious? What is the fourth dimension thing at the end? Also seemed like the clock froze weirdly for a second ... REVEAL YOUR SECRETS.

I think you knocked this out of the park dude, one of the best entries I've seen in a while - killer all around, you covered the bases with GREAT audio, great lighting, and SOLID acting. Maybe Drama should be your thing? Kudos, an honor to have this film made for my little site :)

Wow! Thanks Justin for the awesome review! I'm glad to have pleased you so. Hah! The longer (by 30 secs) version of this tells a little more about the 4th dimension and time travel. That's why you see Mark dead in the beginning and when David comes back he's able to stop him. That's why the clock freezes and (if you can catch it) jolts back before the next shot.

I've also heard other people believe that Mark killed himself anyway, and David wasn't able to keep him safe forever and that's why he was on the roof in the end. Lol, I like this version too. I guess with it being this short there's nothing wrong with leaving it up to the audience.

Thanks again! My actors will be really glad to hear your review!

Great! Also, did you get an email notification saying I left a review? We're still working on that system and I'm not sure if it's still broken

Nope, not yet anyway. Is it the normal filmfights email? I don't check my spam too often.

I'm loving your results with the 550d man! Visually it's lovely. I also think you used your dolly shots well to create a build-up and increase the tension, there's always a risk with camera moves that if they're overused or used without real purpose than they lose their effect but I think you got the balence right here. Also you're definatly progressing in the calibre of acting we're seeing in your work but I gotta say I thought Mark/Michael's perfromance could've been improved. His crying at the end was convincing and the whole was still very moving - but I thought the earlier part felt too 'acted' y'know? Like the sniffing and the squeezing of the eyes, I didn't totally feel the emotions he was going through. I know first-hand it's always difficult to convey those emotions realistically, maybe if he'd been in more of a silent state of sadness for the earlier part. Either way I've learned it can be more powerful for an actor to be playing to an objective and the emotion comes out naturally as a result instead of just playing an emotion because it can feel a little forced. I Hope I'm not sounding like I'm moaning about this cos I really was impressed by the film and I wouldn't want to put off your actors either because I can see they both have the potential to give amazing perfomrances. And the film clips and music worked really well, where did you get them from?

Hey Mate! Thanks for the great critique! Glad you liked it. Michael was awesome. This was his first performance (outside of running and falling in Epidemic). It was a really cool experience on set because you could see with each take and each shot we did, he kept getting better. We shot in sequence which is why the end was the best.

It was a fun shoot. The music is Pro Scores from VideoCopilot, which I'll be switching to Neumannfilms.com's music when they finally put it out. They did the trailer music for our new "Epidemic" teaser on YouTube. As for the clips they're from a film titled "The Yesterday Machine," which is in the public domain. I don't remember the actual site I got it from though. Thanks again!

yah... all sniffling and i couldn't push out a f'ing tear! i could get myself to cry at home, but as soon as it was "action" time, my mind would just go blank and i couldn't get them to roll out...

good fun, though...

and the squeezing of the eyes was because i was stepping on a thumb tack to get me to cry, but... well, that didn't work... haha

AvatarRandomAxe

Hah! I think it worked anyway mate. I've know people who cry like this actually. The don't shed a tear but they squint and wrinkle thier forehead because they get a headache from "crying." You did great!

Thought you did a great job! The indoor lighting was awesome and even though I didn't really like the lighting on the roof (I don't like straining to see outlines) it fit the scene and probably was what you were going for.

The turn back time part is a little subtle, maybe if you had cut another 1/2 second after the clock ticks back it would be more obvious, but not too obvious.

Gerat job!

Always enjoy Random Axe Entertainment Film...Awesome dolly shots, they set up the story so well...acting was good...not actually sure why the best friend would jump off the roof, unless that's how he went back? The music was perfect...it made the overall film so much better...it could have been such a sad gloomy song and yet you went with an up tempo jive and that was an awesome, it worked perfectly....can't wait to see what you come up with next...

Thanks mate! Always good to have someone enjoy your work as a whole. And yes! You got it, he was able to go back somehow by jumping from the roof. My original script had a big explainer about wormholes and time travel, etc etc, but I figured I'd go subtle and see how many people figure it out. Well done! Also, I'm glad you like the music choice, I like the contrast of the music and the content, and it's plausable because that's what was playing on the tv in the beginning. Thanks!

Glad I got to see it...I'm shocked that I figured out how he went back in time...thanks for clarifying that for me...can't wait to see your next HW!

On one hand you used our idea, on the other hand, I'm sure you didn't do it intentionally or wrote the script before checking out our film, and aside from that, your execution was more technically advanced (both because of equipment and effort put into recording and post) and overall better. Your story was streamlined and well executed. Also, time jump = 5th dimension, not 4th (also Einstein's theory). The 4th dimension refers to time as a straight line, 5th refers to multi-dimensional time. Good job.

@team15 Sorry it seems like I used your idea. I haven't had the chance to watch any films other than the HWs yet. I'll get to it! Lol. Also, I never knew that about Einstein's theories. I just used these clips from "The Yesterday Machine." Thanks for watching mate!

@team15 Just watched yours again! I didn't realize that was your film for some reason. It's a good one, but really it didn't have much to do with ours... aside from going back just a few minutes. The reasons they went back weren't the same nor was the way they went back. Again, sorry if you thought they were too similar.

with the exception of the traveling back in time a couple minutes I don't see any connection...

It was a little hard to tell that the best friend was walking on the roof. The lighting was kind of dark. It was really believable, the dialogue was well written. Once or twice the lines felt forced, but not much. The camera quality was beautiful and the moving shoots were amazing and added great dynamics. This looks like a scene that might be part of a bigger production. Amazing work!

Thanks so much! Yea, it's incredibly hard to light night scenes! I've always had trouble with lighting. Too much light makes it look lit and not enough light doesn't bring out enough detail. Anyway, really glad you liked the shots and acting. Thanks!

The opening shots of the film were really well done. I loved how you could feel how close the characters are/were just by watching the first minute. Like everyone else has said before me: excellent lighting, framing, and the music just brought it all together. Story was a bit confusing, but when you got you get it. Nice!

Story telling a bit confusing at the beginning but from there everything else was awesome. Great light work, GREAT follow focus work, and I love the Dolly work on the end scene. Well made, I like it. Need a little work on the crying acting.
