GOSH DANG IT! Pardon my French, but I need a plug in that I don\'t have to view this. I\'ll try to figure it out and come back. Thank you for submitting, though.
OK. thatnx for the suggestion, Justin. I actually didn't notice the download option over there. VLC has saved me on several occasions.
That is a nice house! I love the round part that looks like a castle. Dang, and a Range Rover, too? It must really pay people in the Irish mafia. Cept when you get killed, of course. An adult film group, or just the actors? Either way, not something I see a lot here, so props on diversity. I am going to do a little review video, later, but I just wanted to give you guys a shout out in the mean time for submitting this cool movie.
First off, WMV is a tricky format - I\'d suggest uploading to Vimeo or YouTube to ensure everyone can see your film! (for those of your that can\'t - download the program VLC and just download the file to watch)
I love your accents! I\'m sure they\'re real ... but that doesn\'t mean I can\'t love them. There\'s a Guy Ritchie feel to this. Careful with your audio levels, they\'re being buried a bit under the music. The music is great, btw.
Watch the auto exposure setting! I noticed at around 2:20 --- the camera adjusts the coloring of your shots and it makes it just look cheap. Manual is always the way to go! -- ahh and again around 3 min mark - adjusting the white levels based on his shirt.
Fun gun effects. I love gun effects. Your actors are awesome. Great area.
Ooh, burning envelope, cool. I liked a lot of things about this, didn\'t like the auto exposure and the audio levels. Can\'t wait to see what you have planned for the detective movie next month!
Hey Justin,
Regarding all the camera problems...IT'S NOT MY FAULT!:D My camera is rubbish. It's an insult to the name camera! I'm saving up for a decent one. And my video is on youtube. Thanx for the rest of the review though!:D
I really liked what you were going for in this movie, but I think there needs to be more put into this.
Inside, you need way more lighting and I highly recommend a redub of the voices (there was a nasty echo in the voices). It was very hard to see and hear anything during that first part and really catch a lot of the information on that info dump.
The costumes you used were great.
Weapon props looked good, but when they were shot, the effects left much to be desired by an action movie fan like myself. Take some freeze frames from some action flicks and REALLY analyze them and recreate that in an image editing app of your choice. Also, when your characters shoot weapons, they should be jarring their hands back from recoil.
I don\'t know if you used fake blood or threw the blood in during post production, but it looked like KoolAid. If you go with it on scene, you should use the same fake blood recipe I did. Just search youtube for a great series on making fake blood by expertvillage.
I thought the burning envelope at the end was a REAL good idea for the credits screen. You guys are definitely had the right mood for this mob movie and I can tell already you\'re gonna have a leg up on the feel for a detective movie for next month.
Hi Bryan,
Yeah, the lighting was a bit of an issue i agree. As above my camera is so rubbish it doesn't have a slot for an external mike!!! That's why the audio was so baaadd. Yeah, really need to look at the blood.
Thanx for the review though!
After watching a few more times, I came up with a few more ideas to help you improve your effects. The muzzle flares on the pistols weren\'t as bad as I remembered them, but next time make them less yellow, make them last for two frames and make the flash on the second frame slightly transparent and smaller.
Another cool way to sell your explosion is to get a stand-in for your debris (foam would be good) and paint it the color of various parts of the house. As the two guys are jumping in the air and landing, toss some debris in the air with them to help sell the explosion.
I\'d still like to know what camera you have. Check out the instruction manual very well as well. I thought my camera had no mic ports either, but it did. They had a plastic shroud on them.
My camera is the canon MV800i. There is a plastic shroud bu it just has a DV and an AV port. We tried using the AV port by pluging in an AV lead and converting the audio plug into a jack then converting that into a jack plug and pluging in a mike but it didn't work!
Thanks for the extra tips thought!:D
Excellant job for a 13 year old! Your dad and his friends did well for the camera. Audio and lighting could be tweaked, but other than that, this was another good entry for this filmfight. Keep up the good work.
Stream of conscienceness review.
WMV is dead. Go to youtube or Vimeo already. I lack the accents. Thes guys have a cool look. I like the vibe of this movie so far, the music really helps that. Usualy I\'m completely against gangster movies, but this feels different, and the actors are older, and good. This movies awesomely silly. A bit of a no recoil gunshot. haha Cool gunshot effects for sure. Kind of vite the silly vibe. Your one gangster needs to learn how to fake shooting a gun better. Kind of an awkard pan shot from the dead body up.
Overall:Cool movie, not much story really. But, I really enjoyed the accents, and vibe of the flick. Probably coulda\' been shot a bit better. But, the rest of it made up for it. One of my favorites of the week for sure.
Thanks for submitting. Hope to see you guys next month.
