Hey, speeding Turtles! Nice film group name. Great audio quality on your voice over. Not sure why you don't have any audio for the rest of it. Would love to hear the -CRASH- of everything hitting the floor. Interesting how you cut the first three shots to "this. is. doug." I think it's a bit quick and jerky to start the film out with, but interesting nonetheless.
You've got some major focus issues going on here - make sure your camera person is checking up on that.
It's very odd that the camera lifts up off the ground after the paper is kicked. I would have cut to a shot of him walking away, and then slowly panned down to the sad hand turkey.
You've got a good start here, I'm sure you'll figure out some awesome stuff for next month!
Thanks. I've never really worked with focusing things, but I guess we will learn how to focus well for our next fight. Thanks for the feedback. The voiceover was done through imovie with the built in microphone on my friend's macbook.
In retrospect I would've definitely kept in some of the sound, but I think some of the sound I didn't like at some points so I took it all out. Now I realize that was a bad decision.
I love all the quick shots at the open - it rises you above the usual amateur editing style. The end is a good punchline, and I think the voice over was used well.
The only thing that really stuck out to me to be lacking is, like Justin said, is what's called "nat sound." Even if it's quiet, audiences expect audio to line up with what they're seeing. And if you don't like the real nat sound, you can always fill in room tone (record some ambient sound when the room is quiet, which is different than silence, and helps the audience understand they haven't left the room). Or, fill it in with sound effects or fake ambiance.
Yeah, I really regret taking out that audio. In the future, I will do what you suggested.
Well ,I like the idea. Doug don't have hands and, so he cannot make those hand traced turkeys we always see little kids making around thanksgiving. Couple technical things. The was a toy Hummer in one shot, that was not in the next, that was then later seen on the floor. Even though you were doing a voice over, I think it still would have been kinda nice to hear some sounds from him throwing the paper and crayons. Even if it was just added in sfx. Great effort and keep on trying, for sure!
Yes this hummer was my friends idea to see if anyone noticed. It moved around between different shots. I'm not sure if it was a good idea, but when I saw your vid review of it(I think that was you) I got a laugh out of when you noticed it.
Well, you had me going there. I didn't see the turkey/ hand drawing coming! Good acting too! You chose a variety of shots- crayon in mouth was a good one. Bravo! A very clever "different" kind of use of the theme! Good thinking!
