This was our film! We shot it on a Canon 7D! Well, Erik shot it ... Mike and I directed it. Was super fun to shoot with our friend Sarah from collegehumor, she's a peach! I've also been trying to get Zach (santa) into one of our shorts for a while, worked out great, though he made a wonderful and jolly Santa. He was even 'off book'! which we usually don't have the treat of on our shorts since we're all pretty unprofessional, haha.
I think this is a good mix of 'serious' and 'funny' ... which is what we seek from our flicks. Oh, also we shot this at our neighbor's apartment which is much more clean and nice and conducive for such a thing. Really am sick of shooting at marissa and I's place. BLAH. BORING. This was much better.
lol so I think of sarah as star power in this video.
I love how santa gets straight to the point too.
its pretty much the perfect video.
Sarah's totally star power! Not sure it's a 'perfect video' but I'm pretty happy with the final outcome.
I laughed at the You're jewish comment. THE AMBULANCE in the background is a great shot justin.... nice timing - huh? Justin you coulda done a better effect than that (santa appearing)!
ooohhh... santa gets REAL. I like the message about people ignoring those calls when they should really take them, and how it is kinda selfish to do so when your friends just want to help. Good video. Good message.
Yeah, the santa effect sucks. Was having a bunch of issues editing the footage and was just like 'fuck it!' since time was winding down.
I had to pay that ambulance driver like $50 bucks to keep driving around the block with his lights on! Justin you owe me $50 bucks!
Gah, I had no idea!!! I hope you kept the receipt!
I forgot to mention I also paid the TV company $1000 to play fireplace footage for me, so I figure you actually owe me $950.
Thought it was good. Acting was good, interesting take on Santa knocking some sense into him...reminds me of Lion King with Rafiki. Shots were nice, I especially liked the stuff outside with the depth of field that makes the lights look awesome. Ambulance turning the corner was a great touch. The Jewish comment was funny, too.
Gah! I was so proud that I recognized Sarah from College Humor (actually, more from Jake and Amir). Yeah, she did really good in this. The main actor was pretty impressive, too. It would be so nice, if not a bit intimidating, to have access to such talent. I was really excited to see how this would come out shot on a dSLR. I really like the picture quality. Audio in the first scene was a little sucky. I thought you were going for 100% serious, but was pleasantly surprised when the Santa gag came into play. Nice heart warming plot and ending, with a taste of the whimsical. I enjoyed this quite a bit. This will probably be my vote.
We were having major audio issues on this shoot. There was a horrible hissing sound coming from the radiator, and we only had Sarah for a short while so we couldn't wait for it to stop (stupid NYC old school heating!). The batteries also died on the boom mic at some point, and since we can't monitor audio on the 7D, we missed a bunch of Santa stuff we had to re-record.
I LOVE being here. My list of actors we can call on is pretty impressive, and people here have mad skills. It's so much fun producing this stuff and working with great folks.
great opening shot, you feel like you're put right into the action when she's packing her stuff. Personally, i am a huge collegehumor fan, I check the site every day. They're an inspiration over there. Must be nice to have that star power. "and when you're naked" lol. The red lighting is very christmas-y and comforting. when santa punches him in the face, the red lighting takes on a whole new meaning, which was something i havent seen before. Very, very good,
Enjoyed it. Santa was great, completely unexpected. There were some harsh shadows, especially at the beginning that kept drawing my attention, but then again I have the attention span of a two year old. The mistletoe falling off the door I thought was a great touch.
Totally one of those last minute "hey this is a great idea!" additions. Having the actors also be naturally funny people helps make the film a TON better
The Santa's non-Christian approach took me by surprise and I also find the acting excellent from everybody. Well done.
Cool film with superb acting from everyone. Nice. The non-Christian Santa really takes this to the next level.
