It's really too bad not many places have snow yet this time of year. Snow for these shots would have been great. Or maybe it's better without snow ... sadder perhaps?
Shots through the window look really nice. I would be totally creeped out by a random person staring in my window - too bad they don't spot him and freak out or something.
Lighting when he's walking away is rather unnatural - guess you gotta light it however you can. I see you faked some snow / rain in there.
Some good shots here, feel the story could have been fleshed out a bit more. This is along the lines of the 'trapped in the car' entry. I don't think it's amazing, thankfully it wasn't super long and had some good shots / attention to detail. This is VERY much a on the fence call for me, but I'm going to put this in the LWs. Feel free to rally folks in the forums and see if they think I'm wrong on this call.
The shots on the homeless guy are from so far away, I also feel we never really connect with him or feel that his plight is ours. Could have been good to feel more a part of the moment rather than an observer.
Once again, a very good LW film.
I give this film a B-
This was pretty good. Something that I keep saying to people though is to explore your camera angles. It's very dull visually when you stay at a distance. Also I noticed that it looked like you simply had the camera held by someone at the beggining shots. I highly recommend the use of a Tripod. Even when you have to move it's a great thing to have. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW6AWmqa8ZM This is a great link on how to use your tripod as a steadicam as well. Also Indy Mogul has their build for the track dolly.
Between those it two it might help you establish more professional looking shots. I really like the house at O:57. I think it would have been better to keep your character at the side walk and then proceed to show the window like you did which was a great shot by the way. Then you could have possibly shown a close up of the mans face. People would totally have gotten that he was looking into the window.
Finally I was just going to make one mention on the lighting during the night shots. It's difficult to get a night shot lit, because of shadows hitting the ground. At 1:36 you got a great shot because the light was from what looks like it might be a street light pushed your shadow in toward us which made it so you couldn't see the shadow from your light you were using. It's a really great shot.
Anyway, it's clear that you have some form of editing software, so here's a great way to get past those pesky shadows. You should distribute light from all angles so that there isn't a shadow. Then you use your software to adjust your contrast, hue, ect. until it looks like night. in the forground as well as the background. It takes a bit of work but it's worth it. Also try to angle it so that your light won't be casted down on the ground but instead up at the actor. It's a little tricky but worth it in the final cut.
Anyway I hope that this helps you out. I really enjoyed the storyline and the music tied everything together. Keep up the hard work! Hope to see you in another fight sometime!
The music in this reminds me of one of those tubes that you turn upside down and it makes the funny noise. Oh, fuck, a dude just got hit my a car. Nice fake rain, too, btw. OK, let me go back and watch it, again. I was typing too much.
Too many shots of the light animals (or whatever they are). I am guessing that chick in the window is his girlfriend or ex or something? The "hit" is pretty convincing, but the shot leading to it looks like the car is totally going to drive past him. In the beginning I got the impression this dude is some kinda loner, Rambo bad ass from the combat boots, army jacket, and cigarette. That doesn't seem to match up with the people in the window. Oh, wait. He was coming back from the army to see his girlfriend and surprise her with a present, but she has already moved on, hence the guy helping her decorate the tree? OK, if that is what happened, then I really like it. If not, then I don't think it was clear enough. In either case, I think you should have cut out some of the begininig shots with the Christmas lights in the park.
I have to admit, I had a pretty good time trying to figure this one out, even if that was not your intention.
OK. I admit to being stupid, here. If I would have read the title "Homeless Holidays", I might have gotten a different impression of what the movie was about. Still not too sure, but it's definitely not what I said before.
...lost my attention in the first ten seconds and kinda went downhill from there to me. I kinda dig the color saturations though. Did you do something in post edit, or is this just how the camera you are using captures?
I like the idea of a hobo on christmas. watching the family through the window is genius, you could of had a shot of the family from the inside of the house, laughing, decorating and then cut to the hobo sad out in the rain, would have been a nice contrast. Theres a lot of walking, I feel this could have been 1 minute long.. Overall it is good,
I like the beginning shots. The handheld movements kinda bug me, but thats prob just me. I think i read in one of the reviews that snow woulda made this a lot better. Imma have to agree with that one, it woulda made it look more cold and what not. Creepy hobo in the window, gah id hate to look over and see that. What if the guy inside looked over and seen him, and grabbed a gun and killed him. Better ending perhaps?
pretty decent video over all.
