Cool effect at the start. Thought maybe it was like static electricity that was making her hair stand up on end. Love the gas mask. I like that you overlaid your titles up top. Too bad the guy's hood falls off as he's running away, and then is back on again in the next shot - tricky continuity! That last shot looks like old school stop motion, very cool!!! It's hard since you don't have time to give people mroe context about the piece in the short time limit - maybe some kind of voice over could have helped?
I give this a B+
Damn it! I must've watched that clip 100 times and never noticed that hood.
Trying to fit this into the continuity of the Reaper series doesn't leave much for story telling. You just kind of have to appreciate as the smaller part of the bigger picture.
I liked the "stop motion" look too. Was talking with Mightyjustice while he was doing the FX on that, told him it reminded me of Ray Haryhousen. :)
I think that when looked at as a whole (since this is dang hard to actually get our story crammed into 30 seconds) it makes more sense. This 30 seconds is a segway scene from the fight into the montage clip.
One of the things we are shooting for (Jeremy nailed it on his video review) is we are eventually taking all the "To be continued" shots out an turning this entire menagerie into one long project. :)
Loved the sound synch and the "toilet flush" effect at the end. If it makes you feel any better, didn't catch the hood issue until reading Justin's review. But he is right. Darn! Enjoyed the credits as part of the film. Nice touch. Amazing job tying in with the other "Reaper" videos!
The hand in the beginning confirms what we all knew already, -the head is empty :-) Superbly solved walking part. Would be more pleased if the special effect would show him brake into pieces or turn into stone before he went up in smoke. Still, this is my favorite, mostly because it stays true to the original sound.
You guys need to find a new setting. end affect is kinda overdone.
New setting for a continued story? See...what happens is when a scene ends and the characters move on to a new scene (or setting) then the previous scene (or set, location, setting, etc.) can be, what we refer to as, "wrapped." Until that point the scene continues. We need to show our antagonist and protagonist complete their business and move on to the next conflict and/ or solution.
Agree with you on the end "effect" being overdone. However, we wanted the minion character to get "flushed" away...so the swirl effect was what worked best for our creative endeavors. We debated an explosion, or particulate blast of some sort..but decided the "swirly" effect was reminiscent of getting flushed by high school seniors when you were a freshman. :)
