This is our film. I spent a LOT of time working on sound effects for this. Even the sounds of the clothes rustling against the couch in the opening sequence - the flapping of the eye lids ... the running down the hallway. All of it. Amazing what a HUGE diff it makes in something like this where you're trying to build tension.

Love the first moment that Freddy bursts out - I think it's genuinely creepy. This made me want to make an actual serious film that's creepy at some point. I love making non-comedy things when I have the chance - problem is they usually end up as a gag - ha. Anyway ... Erik did a GREAT job shooting this on the Canon 7D ... Mike and I collabed on the concept ... and thanks to everyone for coming out for the Birthday scene. Mike and I love how this turned out and hope you did too! VOTE FOR US!

I loved the "eye blink" you put into this, kudos! However...the blatent copyright infringement on the Freddy character...well...let's just hope that Hollywood doesn't hear about this! lol.

I think the whole copyright thing kind of took away from the film and made it kind of a generic spoof - but it had a really good concept. It's actually really funny at the end and is fun watching.

Great set-up, although at first the 'waking up' didn't pay off and was getting a tad tiresome, the punch line could have come a few earlier.

I totally screamed the first time he woke up! :D I couldn't help but laugh at the beginning because I recognised who was voicing the main character right away. lol. very creepy, and silly. I loved this lots!

Great use of POV. It was actually very creepy and when I saw Freddy Krueger, I was like "Oh God YES!" Pretty funny too. Only thing I would say to work on is that the digital blood looked kind of fake and you could kind of tell it was voices over. Overall though, it was good.

Loved-
Awesome location, very interesting. Felt spot on for the genre.

The blinking effect was pretty sweet. I'm liking the attention to detail, including a change in focus as the eyes adjust was a nice touch.

The camera work was great! Very smooth and fluid throughout. The camera was always pointed in the right direction. Money.

Freddy was absolutely Hilarious. The ending was a riot!

Editing and sound mixing was top notch! From the transitions to the voice overs, everything had a nice coat of polish.

Excellence balance of suspense and comedy.

Critiques-
Not much to say here...

I can see where some people are coming from when they address using "Freddy" as the antagonist. But I would argue that the ending wouldn't work the same, and to be honest, it didn't bother me at all.

The opening shot of the TV could of been blended a little better or blurred a bit. It felt a little to crisp. But that's nit picking.

Very very funny! Excellent work gentlemen. Top Notch!

I liked this one. I think at the end when it keeps going on and on and on and on it goes on and on a little too on and on, if you know what I'm saying. Probably could've been a lil shorter. That said, the repetitivity made it really funny. It's just that kinda thing where you aren't sure if you want it to keep going or if you want it to end. Loved him appearing all over the place!

This really was pretty creepy (due in large part to the pitch perfect make up and Freddy actor) and pretty claustrophobic in the parts where Erik keeps getting killed over and over, had me needing air (which is great for a horror film). Great comedic touches during the "waking" montage, my favorite being Freddy playing video games: he just kinda looks to the camera, then intently back to the video game (which he appears to be playing in reverse). Brilliant. Erik did great filming and using his hands in the shots, but a few of the screams are kinda silly and goofy. More fear! The blinks and sound FX are perfect. Great balance of horror and comedy.

I think some of the silly screams worked just fine in it, keeping it more on the silly side, as opposed to just straight up horror, which this could have easily gone into.

What can I say that hasn't been said. Loved the blinking and sound. I'm a huge Freddy fan, actually met Robert Englund. When the baddest Monster out there gets tired of playing with you, wow, that's pretty bad. Love the repitition, always a different gag, I'd say load this on YouTube and watch it go VIRAL with the new NIGHTMARE coming out soon. Using Freddy is a touchy thing, but I agree, something familiar we can relate to with minimal explanation, getting right to the comedy. I loved it.

One of the best that you have been made. Erik's voice was funny too. The nightmare scene was shot realy well and that place looks so creepy.

I really love this, so I don't really have any critiques. (Got my vote this week) If I'm being really nitpicky, the only thing that bothers me is that when Erik first falls asleep, you just fade out instead of having him close his eyes. You use the blinking throughout the film, so why not there?

AvatarJustin
Reviewed on April 4th, 2010

Thought about that --- the blinking effect looked really bad when done slowly. I thought the fade worked cuz he was kind of fading out of consciousness. If I had more time to make the blink effect better tho I woulda done what you're saying!

This looks real pro. Only thing that bothers me is the rolling shutter, did you really need the 7D for this? An HV30 with some nice grading would be perfect for something like this (autofocus, IS, deep DOF).
But really, great work. Love the eye blink effect too...
